Pedals

The pedals have to be modified for lever arm ratio and for push rod offset.  My original pedal pivot arms were all wrong, so I cut them off, and made a jig to get the pivot right where I want it. The holes here are drilled for the correct spacing to give my best guess pedal ratio.



I bolt the pedal on at a carefully measured angle



Then bolt on the pivot arm, on top of a measured stack of washers, and then weld it together. I have been able to get the pivot points pretty accurate this way. This one is actually the clutch pedal. I forgot to take pictures when I did the brake.



When I put it all together, it looks like this. The brake is on the left, clutch on the right.





So far, so good. Now what about switches? All modern cars have switches on the brake and clutch pedals for brake lights, cruise control release, and starter lock out. I might not use all of those, but I want this to be a complete "module" with all the hooks in place that I might need later.

So I spent a bunch more time working out this crazy bracket to hold all the switches.



I added some metal "pads" to the pedals to mate with the switches. Its harder to see now that it is painted black, but this is the same pedal from the previous pictures, just a few more pieces added on.



I thought it would be clear, once I put it all together, how it all works. But maybe not.

There are two switches in this picture. When the clutch (on the right) is all the way down, it pushes one switch. The brake switch (on the left) is pressed when the brake pedal is all the way up (which will turn off the brake lights).



You might notice the hole for a third switch on the clutch. This would be for cruse control release. I dont need this now, but if I ever do, it will be easy to add.



It still fits in the truck, thats important.



The pedals are done.

Looking thru my pictures, I started working on brake pedals last May. At that rate, I should be done with the truck in about 2035.
